Automation is one of the core features of the ScaleXtreme product, and is the only way to move from manual, error-prone repetitive tasks to creating repeatable processes that can help you scale. Automation manifests itself in a number of different areas across the product. From running scripts across multiple servers in your datacenter and public cloud, to scheduling and executing patch management across multiple servers, to launching a new software stack on a new server, ScaleXtreme allows you to automate manual, repetitive tasks in a simple way.
Run a single script across multiple machines across multiple clouds and locations
Our automation engine can handle running a job across a combination of internal servers and servers scattered across multiple clouds. This way you can treat machines that are located among different locations and providers in a single, consistent manner, driving down the complexity and cost of managing your distributed server infrastructure.
Use scripts in any language - Perl, Python, Ruby, Shell, Powershell and more
The easiest way to get started is to use the scripts you already have. You can just upload your existing scripts that can run on your server into the Library, and can execute them across one or more servers or server groups. Your script can also be in any language - Perl, Python, Ruby, Shell, Powershell - and it will run as long as your server can run the script.
Replace UNIX cron or Windows Scheduler
Instead of using cron or Windows Scheduler or other scheduling products, ScaleXtreme gives you a single, central place to launch your scripts and automation tasks. It also gives you a single place to edit the schedule of a job that will immediately get applied to all the servers that the job is running on.
Comprehensive job output history
When an automation job is run and completes across all servers, we store the output of the run in a single location that you can access anytime in the future, even if the server is deleted. This way you can go back in time and track the status and output of different operations you have run on your servers.
Script library with version control
All uploaded scripts are automatically version controlled so any changes to the scripts can be tracked, and you can revert back to a previous version at any time.
App Store
To help you get up and running quickly we offer an integrated App Store that allows you to "purchase" (most are free) installers and packages for popular open-source software, such as Apache, MySQL, Wordpress and products. You can use these installer scripts in your automation tasks or use them as part of a new server provisioning process using our Server Templates.
